Update on Train to Busan Franchise
For fans of the Train to Busan series, including its sequel Peninsula, there’s exciting news: director Yeon Sang-Ho is working on another zombie movie. According to Deadline, the new film is titled Gunche, which translates to “colony” in a biological context. The movie is currently in production and boasts a talented cast, including Ji Chang-wook, Go Soo, Koo Kyo-hwan, and Jun Ji-hyun. Distributor Showbox describes Gunche as the culmination of Yeon Sang-ho’s universe, spanning from Train to Busan to Peninsula.
This development may be the realization of Yeon’s expressed interest in creating a third installment, as mentioned in 2021. Since then, he has worked on other projects, including Jung_E, Revelations, Hellbound, and Parasyte: The Grey. While it’s unclear if Gunche is indeed the third Train to Busan film, the franchise may not be going away anytime soon. An English-language adaptation, The Last Train to New York, was announced in 2021, with Timo Tjahjanto set to direct. However, the project’s status is uncertain, and Tjahjanto has been busy with other commitments, including The Beekeeper 2, The Shadow Strays, and Nobody 2.
Gunche is expected to release in 2026. In the meantime, fans can stay updated on the latest news and releases from the world of science fiction and fantasy.
