X is currently working to broaden the accessibility of xAI’s Grok model to a larger user base on the platform. Several users observed today that users can now mention Grok in replies and ask a question to obtain an explanation about a post.
Previously, users of the Elon Musk-owned social media platform could access Grok via a button in the sidebar or by clicking on the Grok button next to all posts, which enabled the AI-powered chatbot to explain the post’s text and image through its image understanding feature introduced last year.
Over the past few weeks, Perplexity, an AI-powered search engine, has been operating an automated X account that functions similarly. Users can inquire about any post on the platform and receive an automated response a few minutes later.
The primary objective of companies developing AI models or tools is to enhance user accessibility to their chatbots or solutions. Meta, the developer of Llama models, has incorporated Meta AI into the search bar of Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger. The company has also launched a website and enabled users to initiate conversations with the chatbot on these platforms. Moreover, Meta is reportedly developing a standalone Meta AI app.
In contrast, xAI’s Grok chatbot, owned by Musk, was initially primarily accessible through X. However, the company has introduced new ways to access its AI assistant since the beginning of this year. A standalone Grok app is available on both iOS and Android, as well as a dedicated site. Additionally, xAI has recently launched a SuperGrok plan offering extra features like unlimited image generation and early access to new features.
