Game Removal from Steam

A video game has been taken down from the online store Steam by Valve after reports emerged that its free demo was installing malware on users’ computers.

The game in question, titled Sniper: Phantom’s Resolution, touted “realistic [first-person shooter] mechanics, dynamic storytelling, and high-stakes missions,” as per an archived version of its Steam page.

Initial warnings about the demo potentially being malware surfaced earlier this week, courtesy of several Reddit users who downloaded and analyzed it.

The removal of the game from Steam was first reported by TheGamer.

This incident follows a similar case last month, where Valve had to remove a game called PirateFi, which was discovered to be a vehicle for malware designed to steal player passwords, a type of malicious software known as an info-stealer.

Valve has not responded to a request for comment on the matter.
