Sunderfolk, a game that combines elements from tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons and couch party games like Jackbox, now has a confirmed launch date. The fantasy RPG from Dreamhaven, the studio founded by Blizzard co-founder and former CEO Mike Morhaime, is set to arrive on April 23. A demo is available to play from now until April 7.

Unlike virtual tabletops such as Wizards of the Coast’s Sigil, which serve as video game-like extensions of traditional tabletop experiences, Sunderfolk aims to use modern technology to simulate a D&D-like experience with greater accessibility for casual players. In this game, players’ phones act as controllers and decks of cards, while the TV or monitor serves as the game board. Although it supports remote play, Sunderfolk is designed with couch co-op in mind.

The game’s narrative follows familiar fantasy themes, with a peaceful town invaded by dark creatures. Players control a clan of anthropomorphic animals, each belonging to a classic class such as arcanist, bard, berserker, pyromancer, ranger, or rogue. These characters can be customized with weapons, armor, items, and skills as they level up, offering a traditional yet engaging experience.

According to Game Director Erin Marek, the goal with Sunderfolk was to create an experience that encourages people to gather together in person. The aim is for the game to evoke the feeling of a traditional game night, whether playing a board game or D&D with friends and family, and to share that experience side-by-side.

A free demo of Sunderfolk is available on GeForce Now until April 7, offering access to all playable characters and an early part of the game. Notably, a paid GeForce membership is not required; a free account suffices.

Sunderfolk will be priced at $50 and will be available on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch. Only the host needs to own the game, as the companion phone app for other players will be available as a free download upon the game’s launch on April 23.
