Film Adaptation of Split Fiction Sparks Bidding War

A bidding war has emerged for the film adaptation of Split Fiction, as reported by Variety at this year’s Game Developers Conference. The game, developed by Swedish indie studio Hazelight, is a split-screen multiplayer co-op experience that follows the story of two authors, Zoe and Mio, as they navigate multiple worlds and overcome obstacles. Hazelight is also the studio behind the acclaimed game It Takes Two.

According to Variety, Story Kitchen, the media company that assembled the It Takes Two film adaptation package before it was picked up by Amazon, is already seeking actors, writers, and a director for the Split Fiction project. Although Variety did not disclose specific companies involved in the bidding process, it is reported that multiple top Hollywood studios are submitting offers.

Split Fiction was designed specifically for split-screen gaming, allowing players to control either Zoe or Mio as they travel through various science fiction and fantasy worlds, featuring elements such as dragons and cyberpunk motorcycles. The game’s narrative revolves around the two authors who were invited to test a new simulation technology, but an accident causes Mio to fall into Zoe’s story, creating a glitch that enables them to travel between each other’s stories. The game was released on March 6, 2025, and is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
