Introduction to Playdate Season Two

The highly anticipated Playdate Season Two is set to commence on May 29. In a recent showcase, Panic announced that players can expect to receive two new games every seven days for six weeks, along with a surprise. Unlike the first season, which was included with every Playdate console, Season Two will require an additional purchase of $39. Pre-orders are now available through the Playdate Catalog.

Mystery Games and Developer Spotlight

Part of the excitement surrounding Playdate’s seasons is the mystery surrounding the games. During the showcase, Panic highlighted four out of the 12 games that will be featured in Season Two. One of the games, in particular, will be of interest to fans of FTL: Faster Than Light and Into The Breach. Subset Games, the studio behind these hits, has created a brand new game called Fulcrum Defender, an arcade action game that utilizes the Playdate’s crank to aim and shoot at waves of enemies.

Featured Games

Other games featured in the showcase include:

  • Dig! Dig! Dino!, a relaxing puzzle game where players dig for dinosaur bones and treasure, created by Antonio "Fáyer" Uribe and Flinthook designer Dom2D.
  • Shadowgate PD, a remake of the classic point-and-click adventure game, reimagined for the Playdate console by Pixel Ghost.
  • Taria & Como, a puzzle platformer that focuses on swinging instead of jumping, developed by JuVee Productions and Popseed Studio.

Additional Updates

In addition to the Season Two details, Panic revealed a new yellow cover for the Playdate console, priced at $34. The console itself recently saw a price increase to $229, but official refurbished models may be available for the original price of $179.

Conclusion

Playdate Season Two promises to deliver an exciting experience for players, with a mix of mystery games, new titles from renowned developers, and a fresh surprise. With pre-orders now available, fans can look forward to diving into the new season on May 29.
