In a surprising move, Nintendo recently shared a vintage Super Nintendo commercial from 34 years ago on its YouTube channel, starring Paul Rudd. What’s more, the company has also released a sequel to this classic ad, this time featuring Rudd playing the Nintendo Switch 2. In the new promo, Rudd wears the same outfit he wore back in 1991, but this time he’s enjoying Mario Kart World with celebrity friends using the console’s new GameChat social feature. The nostalgic callback to the original SNES ad is a charming touch, and it’s a delight to revisit the ’90s in 2025. Modern commercials just don’t have the same charm.
Nintendo has been consistently building hype for the Switch 2’s arrival since its announcement in early April. The company recently held a livestream to give a more in-depth look at Mario Kart World, which launches alongside the new console, showcasing new courses, items, and features like Smart Steering. Although we still have some time to wait, pre-orders for the Switch 2 open on April 24, with the console set to be available starting June 5.
