Whenever Apple upgrades one of its devices, it’s not uncommon to find significant discounts on older, yet still highly capable models. Shortly after the company announced the M4-powered MacBook Air, the price of a version equipped with the M2 chipset dropped to $699, representing a $300 discount from its regular price.
This particular model features 16GB of RAM, exceeding the base model’s 8GB. In today’s market, 16GB is essentially the minimum amount of RAM you should consider, and it’s noteworthy that Apple has started equipping the MacBook Air with 16GB of RAM as standard. This system also comes with 256GB of SSD storage.
Just days after the company announced the M4-powered MacBook Air, a version of the laptop with the M2 chipset has dropped to a new record low of $699. That’s $300 off the regular price.
This discount is transparently an effort to clear out M2 MBA stock in anticipation of the M4-powered model’s release. While we currently rank the M3 MBA as the best MacBook and best laptop overall, the M2 version remains a formidable option — especially at this price.
In our 2022 review, we described the M2 MBA as “a near-perfect Mac” and awarded it a score of 96. We were impressed by its performance (which has since been surpassed by the M3 system), sleek design, and excellent display and audio.
The M2 MBA should still be more than capable of handling most everyday tasks. It also supports Apple Intelligence features, for those interested. This is an excellent deal on a highly capable, albeit slightly older, laptop.
