How it Works

Upon describing your topic, NotebookLM rapidly aggregates hundreds of potential web sources and analyzes them to determine the most relevant ones based on your specified topic. It then presents up to 10 source recommendations, each accompanied by an annotated summary highlighting its relevance to your topic.

With a single click, you can import these sources and utilize them in conjunction with other NotebookLM features, including Briefing Docs, FAQs, and Audio Overviews. The sources will be retained in your notebook, enabling you to read the original sources, pose questions via chat, and leverage NotebookLM’s citation and note-taking features.

For new users of NotebookLM, we have introduced a novel feature called the “I’m Feeling Curious” button, which generates sources on a random topic. This provides a convenient way to observe the product’s source discovery agent in action.

To utilize this feature, follow these steps:

  • Visit notebooklm.google.com.
  • Open a notebook.
  • In the Sources panel, click the Discover button.
  • Describe your area of interest.

The Discover Sources feature is the first in a series of NotebookLM features that harness the power of Gemini to find and collect relevant sources for your notebook. This feature will begin rolling out today to all NotebookLM users and is expected to be fully rolled out within approximately one week.
