During a recent interview with Looney Tunes voice actor Eric Bauza, who lends his voice to Daffy and Porky in the upcoming film The Day the Earth Blew Up, distributed by Ketchup Entertainment and hitting theaters this week, Bauza discussed how this new cinematic adventure for the beloved Looney Tunes characters might impact another Warner Bros. film that has been shelved: Dave Green’s Coyote vs. Acme, starring John Cena and Will Forte, alongside Bauza and other veteran voice actors.
Warner Bros. Discovery live-action hybrid animation project, shared with io9, “I had the opportunity to see [Coyote vs. Acme] from start to finish. I attended nearly every test screening for the movie here in LA, and it consistently received high marks, often in the mid to high ’90s.” He described it as “pretty remarkable” and noted that, like The Day the Earth Blew Up, it offers more than just humor, including emotional scenes that evoke sympathy for the coyote.
Last year, Coyote vs. Acme co-star Will Forte posted about the film on X, stating, “When I first heard that our movie was being shelved, I hadn’t seen it yet, so I thought, like everyone else, that it must not be very good. But after seeing it, I think it’s incredible… Even when a movie tests well, there are no guarantees of success, and ultimately, the decision is up to those who financed it.”
Despite this, Bauza remains hopeful about the future of Coyote vs. Acme, saying, “Who’s to say it’s completely over? The success of The Day the Earth Blew Up might prompt them to reconsider their decision. And even if we don’t get to see this particular film, I’m confident we’ll see more new content featuring these characters – they’re too funny to be left on a shelf.”
The Day the Earth Blew Up is set to release this Friday.
