Facebook has announced the rollout of a new feature that enables creators to earn money from views on their public stories. This monetization option is now available globally to participants in the Facebook Content Monetization program, which can be accessed through this link.
Through this new monetization feature, creators can generate revenue from the content they already produce and share by posting it to their Facebook story. For instance, a creator can share a snippet of a recipe video or reel and earn money from it. They can also monetize their everyday life stories, just like they normally would, by posting them as story content.
However, the announcement video from Facebook did not provide any specific details regarding the payment structure for story monetization. Additionally, the company has not responded to inquiries from TechCrunch about the launch, leaving the specifics of the payment plan unclear.
By introducing monetization for stories, Facebook aims to provide creators with an additional revenue stream, incentivizing them to produce more content on the platform. This move comes as Meta has been actively recruiting TikTok creators to join Facebook and Instagram, offering them cash bonuses, content deals, and support to help grow their communities.
For creators who are already part of the Facebook Content Monetization program and have content monetization enabled, no further action is required to activate story monetization. They can start earning money from their stories immediately.
Facebook launched the Content Monetization program last year, consolidating its In-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and Performance Bonus programs into a single entity. After a beta testing phase with select participants, the social network has now expanded the monetization option to all participants in the program.
In 2024, millions of creators received invitations to join the program, and Facebook plans to offer open enrollment later this year. In the meantime, creators who are not yet part of the program can express their interest in receiving an invitation through the program’s website.
Last October, Facebook revealed that creators earned over $2 billion on the platform in 2024, with payouts for Reels and other short videos increasing by over 80%. Since introducing monetization opportunities in 2017, Facebook has paid out more than 4 million creators, demonstrating its commitment to supporting content creators on its platform.
