Wonder Acquires Tastemade for $90 Million
According to The Wall Street Journal, food delivery startup Wonder has acquired media company Tastemade in a deal worth approximately $90 million. Tastemade, which was founded in 2021, is a producer of food, travel, and home videos, and operates multiple free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels.
This acquisition provides Wonder with access to a comprehensive range of assets, including a content studio, production company, and advertising business. The company plans to utilize these resources to increase brand awareness and reach a broader audience.
Expansion of Wonder’s Services
The acquisition represents the latest move in Wonder’s strategy to develop a mealtime “super app”. The company’s founder and CEO, Marc Lore, who previously served as the head of e-commerce at Walmart, aims to transform Wonder into an AI-powered app that not only suggests meal options but also automatically places orders from Wonder kitchens.
Following this acquisition, users may soon have the ability to place delivery orders for dishes they see being prepared by chefs on Tastemade’s streaming channels.
Past Acquisitions and Funding
Wonder’s previous acquisitions include Blue Apron and Grubhub. To date, the startup has secured a total of $1.6 billion in funding.
