At the conclusion of Wheel of Time season two in 2023, the characters from the Two Rivers, including Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), the emerging Dragon Reborn, and their allies had just achieved a significant victory over the primary antagonist of the season. However, this triumph is overshadowed by the looming “Last Battle,” a pivotal event in which Rand will face the Dark One, determining the fate of the world. This sets the stage for season three, which adapts elements from the fourth and fifth books, The Shadow Rising and The Fires of Heaven.

Prime Video has not yet announced the renewal of Wheel of Time for another season or potentially multiple seasons, considering the extensive nature of Robert Jordan’s book series. In an interview with io9, showrunner Rafe Judkins expressed his hope to complete the story, although the specifics of how this will be achieved remain uncertain. Season three focuses on the characters’ journeys, quests, betrayals, and battles, providing ample content to engage viewers while they wait for the main event.

The season begins with the Two Rivers crew reunited, having defeated Ishamael, one of the most powerful Forsaken. However, their respite is short-lived, as Ishamael’s demise leads to the release of the other Forsaken, who are eager to cause chaos and eliminate Rand and his friends. The Forsaken, particularly Moghedien (Laia Costa), scheme for power, while Lanfear (Natasha O’Keefe) has complicated motivations that lead her to meddle in different storylines.

The season explores various storylines, including the turmoil within the Aes Sedai, the journey of Rand and Moiraine to gather an army, and the entertaining adventures of Nyneave, Elayne, Mat, and Min as they chase the Black Ajah. The production design and costumes are meticulously detailed, making the world of Wheel of Time visually striking and textured.

The show’s pacing can be slow, with some storylines being more compelling than others. Season two standout Madeleine Madden, who plays Egwene, has a reduced presence in season three, but new characters emerge, including Coveney, O’Keefe, and Aghdashloo, who bring complexity and depth to their roles.
