This year’s Summer Game Fest is set to include a new showcase dedicated to games that focus on environmental causes and contribute directly to real-world sustainability initiatives. The Green Games Showcase, led by the non-profit organization PlanetPlay, will take place on Saturday, June 7, at 4:00 PM ET (1:00 PM PT) and will be live-streamed on YouTube.
According to PlanetPlay, the event will celebrate game studios that have raised over $100,000 for certified environmental projects worldwide. Some of the projects include Abundant Village, a regenerative garden project in South Africa; the carbon forestry project WithOneSeed in Timor-Leste; The Hongera Clean Cookstove project in Kenya; and The Teeny Tiny Truth, an initiative aimed at reducing microplastics in New Zealand’s freshwater systems.
The Green Games Showcase is one of several live streams scheduled to take place between Summer Game Fest Live on Friday and the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday. Additionally, be sure to check out the Day of the Devs, Devolver Direct, Wholesome Direct, the Women-Led Games Showcase, the Latin American Game Showcase, and the Southeast Asian Games Showcase. The event will conclude with a Death Stranding 2: On the Beach premiere event, where attendees can get an early look at the game before its release on June 26.
