This week’s captivating Andor episode arc came with a significant price, particularly during the Ghorman armory heist. As rebel leaders and lovers Vel and Cinta were dispatched to assist the inexperienced Ghorman resistance, conflicts arose and unfortunate incidents occurred. The episode’s repercussions were far-reaching, leaving a lasting impact on the characters and the storyline.

Varada Sethu, the actress who portrayed Cinta, recently spoke with Variety about her character’s tragic demise. Sethu revealed that she always believed Cinta was destined to die in the rebellion, stating, “I couldn’t really see someone like her outliving a rebellion. It’s just so horrific, but I just felt it was so brave and unapologetic and that’s what makes Andor and Rogue One different from the other Star Wars shows and films.” She emphasized that these stories focus on the grassroots people, rather than the heroes, and that they are willing to make sacrifices, including spilling blood, to pave the way for greater things to emerge.

Sethu further explained that Cinta’s death was a logical consequence of her actions, saying, “She’s been used as a weapon by the rebellion. She’s the assassin, the one who’s constantly in a fight-to-the-death mode… When you’re in that position time and time again, I think the probability of you being on the receiving end of that is a lot higher.” This perspective highlights the harsh realities of Cinta’s role in the rebellion and the risks she took with each mission.

Cinta’s character was a central figure in Andor Season one, but she split off from the group after the Aldhani mission, setting the stage for the troubles that would unfold. The moment when Cinta reunites with Tay at the end of the first arc is both chilling and exciting, and it marks a turning point in their story. Sethu and her scene partner, Ben Miles, who plays Tay Kolma, discussed the implications of their characters’ encounter, with Miles remarking, “Oh, it’s never a good thing if we come across you, though, is it?” This unspoken understanding between the characters adds depth to their interaction and foreshadows the tragic events that will unfold.
