Samsung is introducing a convenient feature called Now Brief, which is part of the Android 15-based One UI 7 operating system. This feature is not expected to be available on older Galaxy smartphones because it requires a powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to function.
Samsung recently launched the Galaxy F06 5G smartphone, which comes pre-installed with One UI 7, while older Galaxy flagship devices like the Galaxy S24 and S23 series have not yet received the update. However, Samsung is expected to release the fourth beta to the Galaxy S24 series next week.
The Exclusivity of One UI 7’s ‘Now Brief’ Feature
According to Samsung’s UX Head Sally, the company’s strategy and work for One UI 7, including a hint that the update might not bring all the Galaxy S25 features like Now Brief to older devices.
Samsung introduced Now Brief with One UI 7 on the Galaxy S25 series, which is expected not to be compatible with older Galaxy devices since it requires a powerful NPU to run Samsung’s Knowledge Graph engine.
Apart from this, Sally disclosed that some new AI features need upgraded hardware to function. Now Bar’s Now Brief leverages Samsung’s Personal Data Engine, which requires a newer application processor integrated with an upgraded NPU. Noticeably, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is an efficient alternative to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, as it’s manufactured using the cutting-edge 3nm process technology and boasts Qualcomm’s in-house Oryon CPU cores. It will be interesting to see whether the Now Brief will stay exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series or expand to older smartphones.
