Introduction to Uber’s New Shuttle Routes

Uber is introducing new shuttle routes for travelers in New York City. Following the launch of its shuttle service between LaGuardia Airport and Manhattan less than six months ago, the company is expanding its services to include four new routes between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Manhattan.

Details of the New Routes

Starting Thursday, passengers will be able to book up to four seats on the new routes, with the option to reserve them up to seven days in advance or as little as two minutes before departure. Each bus will have a limited capacity of 14 passengers at launch. Similar to air travel, passengers will be allowed to bring one piece of luggage weighing up to 50 lbs and a personal item that fits in their lap or under their seat. Upon boarding, the driver will verify the passenger’s identity using a QR code and PIN.

Route Information and Schedules

The four new routes will include stops at either Port Authority Terminal and Grand Central Terminal or Chinatown and Atlantic Terminal. Each of these two Manhattan routes will be split into two additional routes, one to JFK’s Terminal 4 and another to Terminal 5. The shuttles will operate every 30 minutes, from 5AM to 10:45PM, seven days a week.

Pricing and Promotions

The JFK shuttles will typically cost up to $25 for a one-way trip. However, Uber is launching the new rides with introductory one-way pricing of $10 through April 30.

Demand and Alternative Options

Uber reports that it has booked hundreds of thousands of shuttle seats since launching its LaGuardia routes last fall. While the service may be convenient and more affordable than hailing a cab, it’s worth noting that there is a free public transit shuttle available between the airport and the subway. As one Reddit user pointed out, Uber’s shuttles may be more appealing to tourists who are unfamiliar with the city’s public transportation system.
