Although Twitter may no longer exist, its legacy lives on through the 12-foot tall bird logo from its San Francisco headquarters, which has been sold at auction for $34,375. This amount is slightly lower than the estimated $40,000 by auctioneers RR House, but it is still a significant price for a piece of social media history.

The massive logo, which was a prominent feature of the company’s headquarters on San Francisco’s Market Street, is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable symbols associated with the social media company. The sign was removed after Musk’s rebranding of the company to X. The unknown buyer will be responsible for the costs of moving the sign from the San Francisco storage facility where it is currently located, which will be a significant undertaking due to the sign’s size and weight.

The sign measures 145˝ x 105˝ (approximately 12 feet by 8 feet) and weighs 560 pounds, according to the listing. A YouTube video accompanying the listing shows that it took a crane and a team of several workers to remove the sign from the building. The fate of the sign, nicknamed “Larry” by former Twitter employees, is uncertain, as the winning bidder’s identity has not been disclosed.

RR Auction

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time “Larry” has been auctioned off. Following Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter in 2022, many of the contents of Twitter’s former offices were sold at auction in 2023. Other versions of the logo, albeit smaller, were also popular at the time, with one statue selling for $100,000. The building’s other large bird logo was also sold at auction for an undisclosed price.

Update, March 21, 2025, 1:47 PM ET: Now that the auction has closed, this story has been updated to include information about the winning bid.
