Twitch Introduces Storage Limits for Streamers
Twitch has implemented a storage cap for streamers’ uploads and highlight videos. As of April 19, all uploads and highlights will contribute to a 100-hour storage limit per streamer, regardless of whether the videos are published or not. Note that this limit does not apply to past broadcasts, which are archived livestreams saved for on-demand viewing, or clips, which are short segments shared on social networks. Highlights, which can be longer than clips and comprise multiple key moments from a video, may occupy more storage space.
Twitch initially introduced highlights to boost discovery and engagement for streamers. However, the feature has proven less effective than clips and the mobile discovery feed. Given the high cost of storage, the platform has decided to limit highlights and uploads to support the videos users want to keep while investing in improvements for features like Clips and mobile feed.
Twitch has reported that less than 0.5 percent of active streamers have exceeded the 100-hour limit and will notify those who have directly. To help streamers manage their content, Twitch has introduced filters for Video Producer, allowing them to sort their videos by length, view count, and creation date. On April 19, the platform will delete videos exceeding the 100-hour cap and limit future uploads and highlights.
