Get ready, Disney goths! The world of Twisted Wonderland is finally making its way to the United States as an anime series, set to premiere on Disney+ this October, just in time for the spookiest season of the year. The announcement comes with a thrilling “halfway to Halloween” trailer.
The upcoming Disney+ series will be based on the Book of Heartslabyul arc, which fans of the franchise may recognize from the popular Disney game and manga series. The story centers around Yuuken, the main character, who receives an invitation from a mysterious masked figure to attend Night Raven College.
Night Raven College is a school of Dark Magic, comprising seven houses, each named after a different Disney Villain: Maleficent, Hades, Scar, The Evil Queen, The Queen of Hearts, Jafar, and Ursula. The Hades house is certainly the most appealing option, as the premise of the series is undeniably captivating. The trailer can be watched below, featuring the game’s theme song.
The Disney+ trailer showcases the anime series produced by studios Yumeta Company and Graphinica, with Takahiro Natori (Tokyo Mew Mew New) serving as the chief director and Shin Katagai (The Ossan Newbie Adventurer, Became Invincible) as the director, as reported by Crunchyroll. The series writer is Yoichi Kato (City Hunters: Shinjuku Private Eyes), with animation art by Haruka Nakano and Akane Sato, based on the original aesthetic and animation by Yana Toboso. The series has been greenlit for three seasons on the platform.

A brief look into the character of Grim, the Cheshire-smiling demon cat, has left me eager for more. Having seen snippets of the manga art and game materials previously, the official series’ darkly fun concept, featuring villainous teens and iconic Disney baddies, has piqued my interest. The gothic aesthetic is undeniably Disney-bound, and the concept is sure to appeal to fans of the spooky niche, embracing the Dark Academia style.
Twisted Wonderland is set to premiere on Disney+ this October.
