TikTok has introduced AI-powered Smart Keyword Filters, enabling users to restrict unwanted content on their For You page, as announced by the company on Tuesday. This feature is designed to provide users with more control over their feed content.

Although TikTok already offers keyword filters to limit specific content, the new Smart Keyword Filters utilize AI to further restrict content containing similar keywords, including synonyms, thereby enhancing the filtering process.

The Smart Keyword Filters tool will display the additional keywords being filtered, in addition to the original keyword selected by the user. For instance, if a user chooses to filter out “remodeling,” the tool will also filter out “renovation” and “renovations.” The company plans to introduce a feature that allows users to select or deselect specific keywords in the near future.

Furthermore, TikTok will soon double the maximum number of keywords that can be added from 100 to 200, and plans to simplify the process of adding keywords in bulk.

According to the company, the Smart Keyword Filters will become more accurate over time as more users utilize the feature.

In addition to the Smart Keyword Filters, TikTok has also announced the global availability of its Manage Topics feature, which was initially piloted in the U.S. in August 2024. This feature allows users to customize their For You feed by selecting topics they want to see more or less of, such as sports, travel, humor, current affairs, dance, and food.

To access the Manage Topics feature, users can navigate to Settings, select “Content Preferences,” and then click on the “Manage Topics” option. From there, users can adjust the slider to customize the amount of specific content types they want to see in their For You feed.

As part of its announcement, TikTok has launched a new education guide to help users set up and better understand their For You feed, providing them with more control over their content preferences.
