Social network Threads, developed by Meta, is currently testing a new feature that enables users to showcase their interests on their profiles. This feature goes beyond simply displaying the types of topics users might post about, as it also directs them to ongoing conversations related to those topics.
According to the company, this update aims to make it easier for users to discover and join discussions across the platform, which is a competitor to X, even if they are unsure of who to follow for specific topics such as technology or sports.
The introduction of this feature could make Threads more attractive to new users who want to quickly connect with others who share their interests. This update complements the recent addition of custom feeds, which allows users to create and share feeds based on specific topics or user profiles, making it easier for them to find relevant content.
Similar to the new profile interests feature, custom feeds are also powered by Threads’ understanding of various topics, demonstrating the platform’s efforts to enhance user experience through personalization.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed that the feature is currently in the testing phase and is only available on mobile devices for the time being. The company has announced that more details about the feature will be released soon.
An example of the feature was shared by user @faslu_35 on Threads, illustrating how interests will be displayed on user profiles and how users can edit their interests from a separate screen.
Features like interests and custom feeds are part of Threads’ strategy to compete with Bluesky, a social networking startup and X rival that has gained over 32.8 million users by promising decentralization and customizable tools for feed management, algorithms, and moderation.
