The number of used Tesla vehicles being put up for sale by their owners is increasing, largely in response to Elon Musk’s political activities and the global protests that have resulted from them.

According to data from Cox Automotive, as reported by Sherwood News, the number of used Teslas listed for sale on Autotrader.com surged in March. Notably, the final week of March saw an average of over 13,000 used Teslas listed, which not only set a record but also represented a 67% increase from the same period the previous year.

Concurrently, there has been a slowdown in the sales of new Tesla vehicles, in contrast to the rising sales of electric vehicles from other manufacturers. As per the latest report from Kelley Blue Book, nearly 300,000 new electric vehicles were sold in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2025, marking a 10.6% year-over-year increase. However, Tesla’s sales declined in the first quarter, dropping nearly 9% compared to the same period in 2024.

While automakers such as GM and Hyundai still trail behind Tesla, they are experiencing growth. For example, GM brands sold over 30,000 electric vehicles in the first quarter, nearly doubling their volume from the previous year, according to Kelley Blue Book.
