Although the last Terminator movie was released six years ago, the franchise has remained active through recent TV shows and video games. The upcoming game, based on the iconic franchise, takes inspiration from its groundbreaking sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

The game, titled Terminator 2D: No Fate, is a retro-style sidescroller developed by Bitmap Bureau, the creators of Xeno Crisis and Final Vendetta. Players will have the opportunity to control three characters: Sarah Connor, the T-800, and the adult John Connor. As Sarah, the gameplay involves stealth and shooting, while avoiding the T-1000. Playing as the T-800 will feature intense combat, including hand-to-hand fighting and shooting, with some levels showcasing the Terminator’s nude form. Meanwhile, playing as John Connor involves navigating the post-apocalyptic world, leading resistance fighters, and working to bring down Skynet.

Previous game adaptations of Terminator 2 have been fairly straightforward, but No Fate promises to offer a fresh experience by incorporating specific scenes from the film and introducing original content. The game will also feature multiple endings, encouraging players to complete the game multiple times to explore different outcomes. With Terminator 2 approaching its 25th anniversary in 2026, Terminator 2D: No Fate serves as a great way to celebrate this milestone. Alternatively, fans can engage with other modern Terminator games, such as Resistance or Survivors, or play as the T-1000 in Mortal Kombat 1.

Terminator 2D: No Fate is scheduled to release on September 5 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, Bitmap Bureau has hinted at a release on “retro platforms,” although the specifics and date are yet to be announced.
