Warning: spoilers for season three of Ted Lasso are ahead.
The wait is over for Ted Lasso fans. After months of speculation and uncertainty, the popular show has been renewed for a fourth season on Apple TV+. The show’s star, co-creator, and executive producer, Jason Sudeikis, will reprise his role as the titular character, a college football coach who leads a soccer team in England.
In a recent conversation with the Kelce brothers on their New Heights podcast, Sudeikis revealed that the writing team is currently working on the next season. This time around, Ted will be coaching a women’s team, which could be a refreshing change after the mixed reception of the third season.

While Apple has not released further details about the upcoming season of the Emmy-winning series, it has been reported that production company Warner Bros. Television has exercised contract options for co-stars Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins). Apple confirmed that Goldstein will return as a writer and executive producer, with Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) also returning as an executive producer.
At the end of season three, Ted left his team, AFC Richmond, to return to the US for family reasons. However, given the proposal of a women’s team in the season finale and Sudeikis’ confirmation that Ted will coach such a team, it appears that Ted will reunite with his former colleagues.
“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’ in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be,” Sudeikis stated.
Although the release date for the new season has not been announced, it is unlikely that new episodes will be available until at least the end of this year, given that the writers are currently working on the fourth season.
