We were already aware that Mario Kart World would be launching alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, with a price tag of $80, or as part of a bundle with the Switch 2 hardware at a slightly discounted rate. However, this morning’s Nintendo Direct presentation provided us with nearly 17 minutes of gameplay footage for Mario Kart World. The game features a mix of classic Mario Kart modes, such as Balloon Battle Mode, and new options like Knockout Tour. For a comprehensive overview, you can watch the replay below and read our detailed summary of the latest Mario Kart World reveal, as well as our hands-on impressions of the game from earlier this month.
The original story follows.
Nintendo has announced another Direct presentation, the third in less than a month, which will be entirely focused on the upcoming Switch 2 launch title Mario Kart World. The presentation will begin at 9AM ET and is expected to last around 15 minutes.
The livestream will be available on Nintendo’s YouTube page, and fans can also use the newly launched Nintendo Today! app to follow along. We have embedded the YouTube link, so you can keep this tab open to watch.
At this point, it’s unclear what information Nintendo will reveal during the Direct presentation. The company has already shared a significant amount of information about Mario Kart World, including its open-world design, which can support up to 24 players simultaneously.
However, there are still some unanswered questions, primarily related to the game’s open-world aspect. It’s possible that exploration will yield rewards, or that secret tracks and unlockable characters can be discovered. While we don’t have the answers yet, there’s still hope that these features will be included.
The game’s $80 price tag has been a topic of discussion, with many fans expressing concern that it’s too expensive. This is especially considering that Nintendo recently released its first $70 game. Although it’s unlikely, there’s a small chance that the company might reduce the price or provide more information about preorders for US customers.
Update, April 17 2025, 2:30PM ET: This story has been updated to include a brief summary of the announcements and a link to additional relevant coverage of the game.
