Introduction to Galaxy’s Edge
Starting today, fans of the Star Wars franchise can meet Master Luke Skywalker at Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland. This introduction marks the latest evolution in the theme park’s canon, which initially focused on the time period between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Evolution of Galaxy’s Edge
Over the past couple of years, the park has gradually expanded its timeline to include characters from Disney+ Lucasfilm shows, such as Ahsoka, Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Sabine Wren, and Hera. The Mandalorian and Grogu have also become integral to the park’s experience, driven by fan demand for characters beyond the sequel trilogy.
Season of the Force 2025
Io9 attended the opening of Season of the Force 2025, Disneyland’s annual Star Wars celebration, which runs through May 11. Representatives from Lucasfilm and Disney Live Entertainment discussed the future of the Black Spire Outpost’s story. According to Michael Serna of Disney Live Entertainment, "We look at all of our lands and experiences as an evolution. Some things come and go, shows open, attractions come and go. So, of course, Galaxy’s Edge is going through the same journey; it evolves."
Storytelling Evolution
The introduction of Tohan Lege, a lore weaver created for the Galaxy’s Edge fireworks show, marks a significant shift in the park’s storytelling approach. This year, Tohan Lege will appear alongside his R1-series astromech droid, Bard, in "Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga," exploring the tragedy and triumphs of the Skywalker family. Matt Martin from Lucasfilm noted, "Having an in-universe character to do that storytelling is just kind of a perfect bridge for both of those shows that we have here."
Future Developments
The park’s future plans include incorporating more stories from across the Star Wars canon. Serna confirmed, "Star Wars has so many stories to tell. We had discussions about how to introduce things like Fire of Memory in the fireworks show." As for changes to the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride, Disney remains tight-lipped, but Martin hinted that it will be an authentic Mandalorian story.
Potential Additions
When asked about the possibility of incorporating elements from the now-shuttered Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, such as lightsaber experiences or Gaya’s dinner show, Serna replied, "We’re always continuing to grow and do new things. You never know." Martin added, "We learned a lot from that, from a storytelling point of view. So, I think the lessons that we’ve learned will always inform the future."
Conclusion
Season of the Force is now underway at Disneyland, offering fans a new and exciting experience. As the park continues to evolve, fans can expect more stories and characters from the Star Wars universe to be incorporated into the Black Spire Outpost.
