Having personally purchased Sony’s WH-1000XM5 headphones at full price, I must admit that I’m a bit envious to see them currently discounted by 20 percent as part of Amazon’s Spring Sale. Indeed, our top choice for 2025’s best wireless headphones has seen a price drop from $400 to $318 — a 20 percent discount. Although they briefly dipped to $250 earlier in the sale, they have since increased slightly. Nonetheless, this remains a good deal overall, with the option to purchase them at a discount in either silver or smoky pink.
There are few tech products that I would wholeheartedly recommend, but Sony’s XM5 headphones are certainly one of them. I’ve spoken so highly of them that my parents and brother have all purchased a pair (and my partner frequently uses mine as well). For someone like me who gets headaches easily, one of the standout features is their exceptional comfort. I’ve worn them on multiple overnight flights and can easily keep them on for the entire duration.

Speaking of flights, another notable feature of these headphones is their active noise cancellation, which makes them ideal for long-haul flights. The XM5s boast double the processors and microphones for ANC compared to their predecessor. I recall a particularly impressive experience where I slept just two rows away from a crying baby, yet with music playing, I couldn’t hear a thing. Additionally, the 30 hours of battery life provides peace of mind, knowing they won’t die mid-travel (unlike my AirPods, which always seem to need recharging before I arrive).
Their excellence on flights isn’t the only reason we awarded Sony’s XM5 headphones a 95 in our review. They also excel at providing high-quality music listening experiences, whether you’re working or out for a stroll. The XM5s are equipped with 30mm carbon fiber drivers and DSEE Extreme, which enhance the sound’s quality and depth. My only gripe is that the M5s don’t fold up, but considering the price, they remain an excellent purchase.
