Last spring, Sony introduced its Bravia Theater line of soundbars and speakers, simplifying its product naming in the process. The initial lineup consisted of the flagship Bar 9, Bar 8, Bravia Quad speaker set, and a Theater U neck speaker. Now, the company is expanding its offerings with a more compact midrange option that supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio. The new Bravia Theater Bar 6 provides a 3.1.2-channel configuration, featuring a wireless subwoofer.

The Bar 6 will be the entry-level option in Sony’s Bravia Theater soundbar lineup, sitting below the more advanced Bar 8 and Bar 9. The goal is to deliver immersive sound and clear dialogue. The soundbar features two up-firing drivers and three front-facing drivers for Dolby Atmos and DTS/X audio. Additionally, Sony’s up-mixing technology transforms stereo content into 3D sound when immersive formats are not available. For dialogue, Sony utilizes a dedicated center speaker and its AI-powered Voice Zoom 3, which adjusts volume to maintain clear speech.

Next, Sony is introducing the Bravia Theater System 6, an all-in-one setup comprising a soundbar, subwoofer, and rear speakers. Notably, the soundbar in this system does not feature up-firing speakers, unlike the Bar 6. The System 6 supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X through Sony’s Vertical Surround Engine, which provides virtualized height channels. Although it lacks up-firing speakers, the System 6 still offers stereo up-mixing, converting stereo content into 3D audio using Sony’s algorithm.

A notable feature of the System 6 is Sony’s new Multi Stereo Mode. This mode enhances audio performance for music in living room setups with rear speakers by replicating stereo left/right channels to the center and rear speakers, providing a more enjoyable listening experience.

Sony is also introducing the Bravia Theater Rear 8 speakers, compatible with Sony’s soundbars and designed to work with its 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, which calibrates your system to your living room’s acoustics. Note that the Rear 8 speakers differ from those included with the System 6.

When paired with a Bravia TV, Sony’s soundbars can be controlled using the Bravia Connect app on a phone, allowing volume and setting adjustments without a remote or on-screen menu. Bravia TV and Bravia Theater products can also be controlled via on-screen prompts without needing to switch remotes. Specifically, a Bravia TV controller can be used to adjust volume, sound field, and more on Bravia Theater soundbars and speakers.

Currently, there is no word on pricing or availability for the Bravia Theater Bar 6, Bravia Theater System 6, or Bravia Theater Rear 8. Sony has only announced that these new products will arrive this spring.
