Silent Hill f: A New Release in the Franchise
It has been a while since Konami teased Silent Hill f, a mainline game in the series that takes a different approach by being set in rural Japan in the 1960s, rather than the familiar town of Silent Hill. Now, the publisher has finally released a full trailer for the highly anticipated game during an online event that was livestreamed on YouTube. According to Motoi Okamoto, the head of the Silent Hill franchise at Konami, the game’s central theme revolves around discovering “beauty in terror,” a concept commonly found in Japanese horror. Okamoto explained that when perfection and beauty are exaggerated, they can become deeply unsettling, and the developers aimed to explore how beauty and terror can coexist in a psychological horror narrative.
Indeed, the world of Silent Hill f presents a beautiful yet unsettling environment, even in the most terrifying moments. The game is set in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by the real town of Kanayama, Gero in Gifu, which is characterized by its mountainous and forested landscape. Players take on the role of Shimizu Hinako, a high school student who must solve puzzles and confront monsters to survive in a town consumed by a mysterious fog that has transformed it into a grotesque version of reality. The game’s setting was largely envisioned by Ryukishi07, known for the When They Cry visual novel series, which combines horror and murder mystery elements.
Although Silent Hill f does not have a release date yet, it is confirmed to be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games, ensuring that fans across different platforms can experience this new installment in the Silent Hill series.
