There are numerous reasons to avoid using the Meta ecosystem, which encompasses Facebook and Instagram. However, in certain regions, WhatsApp remains the primary means of text-based communication. As an alternative to SMS, WhatsApp offers end-to-end encryption and was previously a popular method for sending uncompressed photos and videos between iPhone and Android users before Apple adopted RCS. Although Facebook, now rebranded as Meta, acquired WhatsApp in 2014, creating a WhatsApp account does not require a Facebook or Instagram account – only a functional phone number.
Creating a WhatsApp Account Without Facebook or Instagram
To begin, download WhatsApp on your smartphone and initiate the registration process by entering a valid phone number. Upon entering your phone number, you will receive a unique six-digit code to complete the registration process. You can then browse through your contacts on your linked smartphone to establish your WhatsApp network without involving Facebook or Instagram at any point.
Alternatively, you can request a voice call to receive the code. Upon completing the registration process, you will have a WhatsApp account that is not linked to a Facebook or Instagram account.
Linking WhatsApp to Other Meta Accounts
If you decide to integrate your Meta apps, you can access the Settings panel to make the necessary changes. Within the Settings panel, you will find the Accounts Center option, denoted by the Meta badge. Upon selecting it, you will see options to “Add Facebook account” and “Add Instagram account.” Linking these accounts enables Meta to provide more personalized experiences across platforms, utilizing the interconnected personal data.
You can remove your WhatsApp account from Meta’s Account Center by revisiting the Settings panel. Although any previously combined information will remain intact, Meta will cease combining personal data once the account is removed.
