As Samsung is actively developing its next-generation triple foldable smartphone, known as the Galaxy G Fold, a newly surfaced patent suggests that the company may be working on an innovative foldable device with a unique form factor.

According to information provided by SammyGuru, Samsung has filed a patent with WIPO that hints at the development of a Quad-fold device, indicating a potential new innovation in the works.

The patent listings feature a smartphone with a detailed schematic design, showcasing its folding mechanism and revealing a unique form factor for the upcoming foldable device.

Samsung Quad fold patent

Different from the Tri-fold design, which features two hinges, this new Quad-fold device will have three hinges, offering increased flexibility, similar to a laptop, while still allowing it to fold into a compact, smartphone-sized form. This Quad-Fold design could mark a significant shift for Samsung in the foldable industry.

However, it’s essential to note that this patent merely showcases the concept of a Quad-Fold model and does not confirm that Samsung will release such a device in the future.

Currently, Samsung is preparing to launch its first tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy G Fold, which boasts a stunning form factor, following the lead of Huawei’s first triple foldable, the Mate XT.
