Samsung Redesigns S Pen for Foldable Phones

Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7: What’s New?

Samsung’s S Pen is currently the hot topic among Galaxy enthusiasts. A new report suggests that the company is redesigning the S Pen for its upcoming foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which could result in a thinner and lighter phone.

The New S Pen: A Digitizer-Free Design

For next-generation foldable phones, Samsung is developing a new S Pen that will likely function as a digitizer. According to a tipster, Samsung is planning to detach the digitizer, which is a thin layer in the display assembly used to catch S Pen movement and read input seamlessly.

Internal Testing Confirms the New S Pen

PandaFlash, on X, revealed that Samsung’s new S Pen has passed internal testing and is now ready to use in its upcoming foldables. If the report comes true and the company successfully readies a new digitizer-free S Pen for foldables, it would result in cutting some weight and thickness from the devices.

A Slimmer Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition

Last time, Samsung introduced the sleek design Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition without S Pen support since the priority was to make the device slim. Finally, it seems that Samsung has found the solution to make the foldable device slim with S Pen support by making the pen digitizer-free.

Expectations for the Galaxy Z Fold 7

According to reports, we expect the Galaxy Z Fold 7 prototype display to be slightly thinner than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The reason behind this expectation is that we are assuming that Samsung detached the digitizer layer from the display, which would result in a thinner and lighter device.
