Samsung and Hyundai Motor Company have successfully completed the inaugural end-to-end Reduced Capability (RedCap) trial on a private 5G network, demonstrating the potential of future industrial 5G capabilities.

According to an official announcement by Samsung on its website, Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor have collaborated to establish an advanced private 5G network. This network connects and manages various devices and manufacturing systems across the plant, enabling real-time data upload and download.

The primary objective of the trial was to verify the RedCap capabilities and overall network performance, from the vehicle inspection terminal to the private 5G core, radios, and management system.

Samsung and Hyundai are working together to replace Wi-Fi with a more reliable private 5G network for real-time data and device management in a factory setting. To achieve this, Samsung utilized RedCap-powered private 5G network solutions, which include the Network Management System, virtualized 5G Core, baseband units, and radios supporting the 4.7 bands.

It is reported that Samsung will unveil its next-generation private 5G network at MWC 2025, leveraging the company’s virtualization expertise. The company will introduce software-centric private 5G solutions, including VRAM software and other software applications on commercial servers (COTS).
