Samsung Unveils Plans for Seventh-Generation Foldable Smartphones

Samsung is gearing up to debut the seventh generation of foldable smartphones, including the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which could feature the same camera setup as its predecessor device.

Upcoming Devices and Release Date

Samsung is supposed to debut the seventh-generation foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, in the early second half of the year at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. It’s expected that Samsung is not looking forward to offering any camera upgrades to the forthcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Development of New Flip Models

According to a report from GalaxyClub, Samsung is already working on two new Flip models; the first is the Galaxy Z Flip, which is codenamed B7, and the second one is codenamed B7R.

Camera Specifications

Reportedly, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will feature, as usual, a dual camera setup, and the configuration is as follows:

• A 50MP main camera
• A 12MP ultrawide camera

The configurations are similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 6, including a 10MP selfie camera at the front. However, it’s expected that without any upgrades in the lens configuration, the latest flip phone will deliver better photos as compared to its predecessor.

Potential Design Changes

The same source previously claimed that a design patent granted to Samsung showcased the new Galaxy Z Flip design with a triple camera setup on the outside. Since Samsung is already offering a main and ultrawide lens to its flip phone, this means that the third one could be a telephoto lens. However, there’s no official word regarding this patent, so it remains to be seen.

Patent Reveals New Camera Orientation

The patent also showcases the entire rectangular display and therefore no longer has a ‘lip’ as is the case with the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and hints that this time Samsung could offer a different orientation of the cameras; the lenses could be arranged vertically on the cover of the phone. It will be interesting to see whether the leaked camera specs and a rumored telephoto camera will come into existence.
