Samsung stands out as one of the few smartphone manufacturers that consistently deliver timely software updates to its devices. With its industry-leading update policy, Samsung is taking a significant leap forward by introducing a new Android software update policy, dubbed “6+6,” for its latest Galaxy A-series smartphones, the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56.

Historically, Samsung has prioritized enhancing its OS updates and has continually updated its software update policy to make its Galaxy ecosystem more secure. Prior to 2021, Galaxy A-series devices were eligible for 3 major OS updates and 4 years of security patches.

However, with the introduction of the flagship S-series models, specifically the S21, Samsung’s software update policy underwent a significant change. The Galaxy A lineup was subsequently rewarded with 4 major OS updates and 5 years of security updates.

Samsung Galaxy A56 & A36 to Receive 6 Years of Software Support

It appears that Samsung is now revamping the software update policy for its recently announced Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 devices. Both devices come with One UI 7, which runs on Android 15, out of the box. According to Samsung, these devices will receive 6 major OS updates and 6 security patch updates, ultimately updating to Android 21 (One UI 13).

In case you missed it, Samsung previously announced that its newer flagships would be eligible for an impressive 7 years of updates, as per the new update policy norms. Additionally, the current Galaxy S25 series is capable of receiving up to 8 years of software updates, thanks to the inclusion of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.

Now that Samsung has promised 6 major OS and 6 security updates for the new Galaxy A56 and A36, it will be interesting to see if all future Galaxy A-series devices will receive the same software update policy treatment.
