Sad News for Gamers: Hypixel Studios is Shutting Down

Here’s a bit of unfortunate news for gamers. Hypixel Studios has announced that it is and ending the development of Hytale, a game that had shown great promise by combining action-RPG mechanics with elements of Minecraft. Back in 2020, Riot Games, the company behind League of Legends and Valorant, purchased the developer, although the work on Hytale had begun .

Immediate End to Development and Company Closure

The development of Hytale is coming to an immediate end, and Hypixel Studios will be shutting down over the next few months. According to Hypixel CEO Aaron "Noxy" Donaghey, the decision to end the project was made when it became apparent that the team couldn’t deliver Hytale in a way that truly met its potential.

Challenges in Development

Donaghey explained that as the vision for Hytale evolved and the gaming genre continued to mature, the standards for the game kept rising. The technical ambitions for the game became more complex, and despite a significant reboot of the game engine, the team found that Hytale was still not progressing as needed.

Support from Riot Games

Donaghey appreciated the support from Riot Games, stating that the company offered generous severance packages to the staff and is assisting impacted employees in finding new opportunities. We have reached out to Riot Games for a comment and will update this post if we receive a response.

A Missed Opportunity

This news is disappointing for gamers who were looking forward to Hytale, especially considering the game’s potential and the that had teased reworked biomes, improved graphics, and more. Unfortunately, the gaming community will now never know what could have been achieved with Hytale.
