As April Fools’ Day arrives, we have some genuine news to share: the eighth season of Rick and Morty is set to premiere on Adult Swim on May 25, accompanied by a sneak peek. This announcement was part of Adult Swim’s annual April 1 celebration, which also featured a 22-minute special showcasing beloved Rick and Morty moments reimagined in unusual and unsettling ways, blending “absurd, live-action, theater-based genres.” The result is something that must be seen to be believed.
To start, we have the season eight sneak peek, described in typically vague terms: “Rick and Morty is back for Season Eight! Life has meaning again! Anything is possible! Expect adventures with Summer, Jerry, Beth, and the other Beth. Perhaps Butter Bot will receive a new task? Whatever happens, Rick and Morty won’t be kept down for long. Many have tried!”
If you’re craving a life-sized Pickle Rick, you can now watch the special broadcast on YouTube:
Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen stated in the press release, “We hope you enjoyed our theatrical interpretations of Rick and Morty, especially if you’re now inspired to support a potential Broadway adaptation of the show. For everyone else, we’re thrilled to announce the season eight premiere date, giving you time to prepare for another outstanding season of television from the team.”
We have no doubt about the quality of the upcoming season, and now that we know Rick and Morty will return on May 25 to delight fans in over 170 countries (with new episodes available for purchase in the U.S. the day after they premiere on Adult Swim and streaming starting September 1), we can begin our countdown.
Rick and Morty features the voice talents of Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden as the titular characters, alongside Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, and Spencer Grammer. The show is executive produced by Dan Harmon and Scott Marder, with Marder also serving as showrunner.
