Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio initially teased “Project Century” in 2024. During Summer Game Fest, the studio unveiled a new trailer, revealing the game’s official title: “Stranger Than Heaven”. This game draws inspiration from the bare-knuckle brawling found in the Yakuza series but is set in 1943’s Japan, characterized by its jazz scene.

Although the trailer does not provide a comprehensive understanding of the story, it appears that Stranger Than Heaven will feature an open-world environment with numerous enemies to fight and narrative choices influenced by both the characters you help and those you confront. The game’s protagonist, Mako Taito, seems to be investigating a mystery, possibly as a private eye.

Earlier this year, RGG released a spin-off titled Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. The studio’s last major entry in the crime saga was Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth in 2024. While Stranger Than Heaven shares gameplay similarities with RGG’s other open-world action RPGs, it is unclear if it is set in the same universe. The game’s stylish visuals are, however, readily apparent.

Stranger Than Heaven is currently in development, with no release date announced.
