Americans who are eager to purchase the Switch 2 are still waiting for their chance. Switch 2 pre-orders remain indefinitely delayed in the U.S. and Canada at the moment. Nintendo had previously announced that pre-orders would open on April 9, but this was canceled due to tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.

According to a statement from Nintendo provided to Engadget: “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged.”

Since the initial delay was announced, there has been no additional information from Nintendo. However, rumors have surfaced that pre-orders could open as early as April 23 or April 30, although this has yet to be confirmed.

During its recent Direct presentation at the start of April, Nintendo revealed more details about the Switch 2 than ever before. This included the announcement of the April 9 pre-order opening date, as well as the starting price of $450. However, shortly after, President Trump announced sweeping tariffs on China and other countries, prompting Nintendo to delay pre-orders in the U.S. and Canada.

In a subsequent move, President Trump announced a 90-day pause on steep “reciprocal” tariffs affecting 75 countries. However, he also announced that the tariff imposed on China will increase further, currently standing at 245 percent for that country.

The implications of this for Switch 2 pre-orders and pricing remain unclear, but it is known that Nintendo began relocating some of its Switch console manufacturing to Vietnam in 2019. The reciprocal tariff for Vietnam was initially set at 46 percent but is currently on hold, with a 10 percent reciprocal tariff in effect during the 90-day pause period.

Recent speculation suggests that Nintendo may increase production of Switch 2 units in Vietnam to meet the scheduled shipping date to the U.S. and possibly even sell them at a loss in the short term.

In addition to purchasing directly from Nintendo, the Switch 2 will be available for pre-order from participating retailers once it arrives in the U.S. These retailers are expected to include Amazon, Best Buy, Source Link
