Power Rangers Revival

The Power Rangers are poised to make a comeback. Following numerous attempts to revive the franchise over the past few years, Hasbro has partnered with Disney+ to produce a new live-action series. The show will be helmed by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the showrunners behind the successful Percy Jackson series.

According to The Wrap, this deal comes almost a year after a previous attempt to reboot the series at Netflix failed. Prior to that, Lionsgate had produced a decent reboot for the big screen, but it ultimately fizzled out. The upcoming series aims to "reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers."

A New Era for Power Rangers

The Power Rangers have maintained their popularity across multiple mediums for decades. However, live-action has always been the gold standard, given the original hit 1990s show. Hasbro acquired the franchise in 2018, and since then, various movie and TV show iterations have been proposed, but none have come to fruition. The involvement of Steinberg and Shotz, who have a proven track record with Percy Jackson, may inspire confidence in this new iteration.

The partnership with Disney+ also lends credibility to the project, as the streamer has become a hub for genre programming aimed at a specific age demographic. While Disney+ can be brutal to some of its shows, it has also shown a commitment to supporting popular franchises.
