A straightforward explanation for the current state of Peacemaker in the new DCU can be found outside the San Diego Comic-Con venue.

Upon entering the HBO Max activation area for Peacemaker “Peacefest” in the Gaslamp District, a sign that reads, “Relax, it’s a state of emergency; you’re fucked’, dude” is prominently displayed.

Io9 was invited to explore the “Peacefest” space, which allowed attendees to enter a Quantum Portal into the Peacemaker universe. This might be connected to Lex Luthor’s pocket dimension and the anomaly noticed by Clark and Mr. Terrific at the end of Superman.

The timed experience featured props from the series, which returns on August 21 on HBO Max. A notable prop was a giant Mighty Crabjoys poster on one of Peacemaker’s helmet walls, indicating that Superman might have other fans who could potentially aid Peacemaker.

Attendees were also able to enjoy a live band performance of the show’s theme song, participate in photo-ops, and play Mortal Kombat to celebrate Peacemaker’s addition to the roster for Mortal Kombat 1. A hint at the potential danger faced by the characters was a TV playing the show on a deteriorating VHS tape under a “Lost and Found” sign.

The closing song revealed some spoiler-ish information, with a message from Peacemaker to leave and a warning that the “Alternate Dimension Collapsing.” This suggests that season 2 will have high stakes as Peacemaker navigates the transition between the old and new DCU.
