OpenAI is increasingly transforming into a consumer-oriented company, as evidenced by its revelation to CNBC that it has reached 400 million weekly active users. This marks a significant surge in usage, considering the AI developer behind ChatGPT had 300 million users in December 2024. However, the company has not disclosed the exact number of paid subscribers to ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Pro.

In the B2B sector, OpenAI’s enterprise plans are witnessing substantial growth, with the company now boasting 2 million paying enterprise users. Notably, this figure has doubled since September 2024. Additionally, OpenAI’s developer APIs have seen a notable increase in traffic, with usage doubling over the past six months.

It is worth noting that OpenAI shared these metrics shortly after China’s DeepSeek unveiled rival technologies, including an AI model, a reasoning model, and an AI assistant app. This move by OpenAI can be seen as an effort to demonstrate the thriving state of its business, particularly in the face of emerging competition.
