OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-4.1 to Paid Users

OpenAI is now making its latest AI model, GPT-4.1, available to all paid users. The rollout has begun for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team members, while Enterprise and Edu subscription holders will have to wait a few weeks to access the new model. Once available, users can select GPT-4.1 from the “more models” dropdown menu in the model picker.

This updated version of the ChatGPT AI chatbot was previously made available to the company’s developer API, offering significant improvements in speed and efficiency over the GPT-4.5 model it replaced. Notably, OpenAI is rapidly iterating its models, with GPT-4.5 having debuted in February and already being surpassed by the new version. The company had also announced that it is phasing out GPT-4.5 for developers last month.

In addition to the full GPT-4.1 model, OpenAI is also introducing a GPT-4.1 mini option, which will replace the current small model of GPT-4o mini. This upgrade will be applied to all tiers, including the free version. The GPT-4.1 mini will serve as the fallback option for free users once they reach the cap on their access to the more robust GPT-4o model.
