On Friday, OpenAI announced the rollout of Operator, its AI-powered agent designed to perform tasks on behalf of users, to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in multiple countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the U.K., and several others.

According to OpenAI, Operator will be accessible in most regions where ChatGPT is available, with the exception of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.

Operator, which was launched in January in the U.S., is one of several AI agent tools available in the market that can be instructed to perform various tasks, such as booking tickets, making restaurant reservations, filing expense reports, or shopping on e-commerce websites.

Currently, Operator is exclusively available to subscribers of the $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro plan and can only be accessed through a dedicated webpage. However, OpenAI plans to make Operator available across all ChatGPT clients in the future. The tool operates in a separate browser window, which users can control at any time, to complete tasks.

The market for AI agents is highly competitive, with companies like Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit developing agents that can perform similar tasks. However, Google’s project is currently on a waitlist, Anthropic’s agentic interface is only accessible through an API, and Rabbit’s action model is limited to users who own its device.
