Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America, stated that the company did not consider potential tariffs from the United States when determining the price for its upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console, as reported by Wired.

Last week, Nintendo unveiled its highly anticipated Switch 2 console and announced a release date of June 5 with a price tag of $450. However, later that day, President Donald Trump announced the imposition of broad tariffs on goods imported into the US, causing disruption to the global economy.

Initially, US preorders for the Switch 2 were set to commence on April 9, but US consumers will not be able to preorder the console until Nintendo finds a way to address the tariffs. Since many Switch 2 components are assembled and manufactured in China, Vietnam, and Cambodia, the new tariffs will have a significant impact, with China facing 54% tariffs, and Cambodia and Vietnam facing 49% and 46% tariffs, respectively.

According to Bowser, Nintendo has already started to diversify its production locations, shifting most of its production from China to other countries, in an effort to mitigate the effects of the tariffs.
