Marvel Rivals Developers Address Dataminer Leaks and Future Updates

Following the introduction of the Fantastic Four as the game’s first post-launch heroes, the Marvel Rivals community is eager to learn about upcoming additions. Dataminers have uncovered a significant amount of information about future additions, which has sparked a heated discussion. In response, developers at NetEase have shared their thoughts on the matter, providing insight into their development process and plans for the game.

In an interview with IGN, producer Weicong Wu and Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo addressed the leaks and speculation surrounding potentially fake characters. Koo explained that the studio “experimented with a lot of play styles and heroes,” comparing the situation to someone leaving a notebook with ideas and a dataminer finding it without context. He assured fans that the developers are not intentionally misleading the community, stating, “We’d rather spend our time developing the actual game.”

Wu elaborated on the character development process, describing it as “very complicated” and involving concepts and prototypes. While some information may be present in the game’s code, Wu cautioned players against taking it as confirmation, saying, “It might mean that we’ve tried those directions and they may appear or may not appear in our future plans.” The decision to include a character ultimately depends on the gameplay experience the players expect and the balance of the game.

During the same interview, Wu and Koo revealed that NetEase plans updates for Marvel Rivals roughly a year in advance, with new characters being added every month and a half. The developers consider factors such as balance, community interest, and potential tie-ins with Marvel’s upcoming projects when selecting characters. While leaks may provide some information, they do not tell the whole story, and fans should remain excited about future additions without relying solely on rumors.
