MyFitnessPal Launches AI-Powered Meal Planning Feature
MyFitnessPal, a popular and free food logging app, is expanding its capabilities by introducing an AI-generated meal planning feature. This feature is the result of the company’s acquisition of a startup called Intent.
How it Works
The AI meal planning feature will be able to create personalized meal plans based on subscribers’ goals, preferences, dietary habits, and routines. The feature will utilize the information that MyFitnessPal already has on its users, as well as a survey to ensure a tailored approach. The meal plans will be part of an end-to-end experience, allowing users to:
- Automatically generate a grocery list for the next time they’re at the store
- Order groceries to be delivered to their doorstep
Key Features and Benefits
The AI meal planning feature offers several benefits, including:
- Personalized meal planning based on individual preferences and dietary needs
- Automatic generation of grocery lists and ordering options
- Integration with existing MyFitnessPal data and user information
Potential Concerns and Limitations
While AI meal planning can be beneficial, there are concerns about its potential limitations and unintended consequences. AI’s ability to hallucinate could lead to oddball meal combinations or incorrect grocery lists. However, MyFitnessPal has assured users that the feature is designed to provide a safe and effective meal planning experience.
Availability and Pricing
The AI meal planning feature will be available in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, starting in the spring. To access the feature, users will need to join a new $99.99 annual subscription tier called "Premium+". Users can already sign up for a waitlist on the MyFitnessPal website to try out the feature when it becomes available.
