Despite his massive following, Elon Musk has not won over the residents of West Lake Hills, an affluent suburb of Austin, Texas, as reported by the New York Times. In 2022, Musk purchased a $6 million home in the area, which has since become a point of contention due to the construction of an unauthorized 16-foot chain-link fence, the installation of a metal gate, and the mounting of outward-facing cameras by his team.

The neighborhood’s homeowners association president, Paul Hemmer, who owns a Tesla and is a retired real estate agent, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation, referring to Musk’s residence as “Fort Knox” and voicing his concerns about the disruptions caused by Musk’s security personnel and their vehicles.

The security measures implemented by Musk have significantly altered the once-peaceful atmosphere of the street, leading to worries among residents about the potential consequences of his return from Washington. Hemmer noted that Musk has a history of constructing without obtaining the necessary permits, stating, “If you follow him at all in the news, he’s always guilty of building stuff and then asking for permission later,” during a planning meeting.

Hemmer has been particularly affected by Musk’s presence, with the billionaire’s security team even reporting him to the police for allegedly being naked in the street. However, Hemmer maintains that he was on his own property, wearing only his underwear, and has been using drones to monitor Musk’s house for any ordinance violations, as reported by the Times.
