MultiVersus: A Warner Bros. IP Platform Fighter Coming to an End

The Warner Bros. IP platform fighter, MultiVersus, from Player First Games, is set to come to an end on May 30. On Friday, Player First revealed that the game would receive its fifth and final season this Tuesday, February 4. The season will last until the end of May, after which MultiVersus will be delisted and its online functions rendered inert.

New Characters and Season Details

The new season will introduce Aquaman and Lola Bunny to the roster, with both characters being completely earnable through gameplay. The DC hero, Aquaman, will be relegated to the season’s first battle pass tier, while Lola Bunny can be obtained simply by logging into the game.

A Message from Player First

In a statement, Player First expressed their gratitude to every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. The developer stated that they have poured their heart and soul into the game and will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the community throughout this journey.

A Brief History of MultiVersus

MultiVersus initially hit with its open beta back in 2022, which lasted for nearly a full year before Player First took it offline to complete development. The game returned in 2024 with a new look and more characters, but players had issues with its grind and monetization, as well as changes made from beta to full release.

The Future of Player First

With MultiVersus going away, it is unclear what this means for Player First. Warner Bros. acquired the studio last year after the game’s relaunch, and this has been its sole credit. In 2022, game director Tony Huynh stated that the studio was unaffected by WB’s merger with Discovery, but after Rocksteady recently laid off staff, it is unclear what the future holds for Player First.
